Sarawak has no plans to repeal immigration policy, says Adenan – Bernama


Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem says the state government will not repeal its immigration policy to ensure problems in the peninsula will not affect the state. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, February 25, 2015.The Sarawak government has no plans to repeal its immigration policy and regulation to ensure the peace and harmony of the multi-ethnic population in the state.Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the existing immigration policy is one of Sarawak's conditions for joining Malaysia as the state was  full of outsiders and received external threats."The Malays, Chinese, Ibans, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu in Sarawak live in harmony without argument about religion as what happened in the peninsula"We closed the door to extremists to prevent negative elements from the peninsula to enter Sarawak."Adenan said this in the programme “Bersama Ketua Menteri Sarawak" on TV1 tonight.He also said the state government planned to abolish toll and was in negotiations with the concessionaires.On illegal logging, Adenan said lax enforcement by authorities emboldened thieves caused the Sarawak government to lose royalties while forests were destroyed.He added that the Sarawak forestry department conducted daily raids and cancelled about 600 logging licences. – Bernama, February 25, 2015.
