of the National Unity Policy.The memorandum themed 'Perpaduan Rakyat Malaysia: Teras Keamanan dan Kemakmuran Negara' (Malaysian Solidarity: Foundation for National Peace and Prosperity) was presented by National Unity Convention chairman Datuk Azih Muda at the Deputy Prime Minister's official residence.When speaking to reporters, Azih, who is also Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) said the memorandum was a summary and resolutions made at the National Unity Convention held on November 23 in Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by over 320 Malay and Muslim NGOs.The 95-page memorandum contained 58 resolutions, of which 19 were on politics and the country's laws and constitution, seven on Islamic affairs, 20 on the economy and the rest on other matters.The document also urged the government to review the abolition of the Internal Security Act, and for all strategies, policies, programmes and laws to foster and strengthen national unity to be based on the fact that the indigenous
people are the main race in Malaysia.From the economic perspective, the memorandum urged that the government form a board of trustees to manage and develop Malay reserve land and customary land in the peninsula, and wants local banks to review the loan rate for these lands.The memorandum also suggested that the government review the effectiveness of the National Service Training Programme (NS) so that it becomes a mechanism to strengthen and boost patriotism and unity among Malaysia's younger generation. Besides Azih, also present at the ceremony were former chief justice, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad, Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alumni president Datuk Zaini Ujang. – Bernama, January 15, 2015.
